Stone retaining walls for Gold Coast hinterland and coastal sites
The Gold Coast has two very different retaining wall problems. In the hinterland, around Tamborine Mountain, Mudgeeraba, Bonogin and Currumbin Valley, steep blocks and heavy rain need walls with solid footings and serious drainage. Closer to the coast, sandy soils and high water tables call for a different base and backfill.
We build natural stone and sandstone retaining walls and rock walls to suit each setting, and we plan drainage first so water does not build up behind the wall. Stone is the right choice where the wall is part of the landscape, such as terraced gardens, pool surrounds and driveway entries.

Do I need council approval for a retaining wall on the Gold Coast?
In Queensland, a retaining wall generally needs building approval if it is more than 1 metre high, or if it sits close to a building or another wall and carries extra load. Some canal and hillside lots have extra City of Gold Coast requirements. We check this on the site visit.
