Stone pitching for Brisbane creeks, gullies and slopes
Brisbane's summer storms move a lot of water in a short time. On acreage and leafy blocks in the western suburbs, that water finds the creek lines, gullies and table drains first, and bare earth batters wash out quickly. Stone pitching, also called rock pitching, armours those surfaces with hand-placed stone so the next storm runs over rock instead of soil.
We set the stone on a prepared, compacted base with the face shaped to the flow, so the pitching holds its line rather than slumping after the first wet season. It suits driveway swales, culvert headwalls, dam spillways and steep garden batters where turf will not hold.
